Lakers Retires Shaquille O’Neal’s No. 34

The Los Angeles Lakers retired the No. 34 jersey of Shaquille O’Neal during halftime of the game against Dallas Mavericks at the Staples Center. No. 34 is now the ninth number the Los Angeles Lakers have retired. There was a video montage of Shaq's career with the Lakers and a pre-recorded message from Kobe Bryant was showed. In the ceremony Phil Jackson and and Jeannie Buss also spoke live. He joins Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabaar among those honored in the rafters at the Staples Center.
O'Neal thanked, Dr. Jerry Buss, Jack Nicholson, Adam Sandler among others.

Shaquille Rashaun O'Neal or Shaq was born March 6, 1972. He was in Louisiana State University before being drafted to Orlando Magic. He quickly became one of the top centers in the league. After four years with the Magic, O'Neal signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Lakers. He spent eight seasons with the Lakers, winning three championships (2000, 2001, and 2002), three NBA Finals MVPs and the 2000 Most Valuable Player award.

In 2004, O'Neal was traded to the Miami Heat. Then in 2006 he won his forth championship. In Season 2007-2008 he was traded to the Phoenix Suns. The next season to Cleveland Cavaliers. And lastly played for  the Boston Celtics in the 2010–2011 season before retiring. Shaq O'Neal is No. 6 on the NBA's all-time scoring list. 

O'Neal was also a rapper. He had 4 albums and also appeared in films and starred in TV shows.
