Sony's database was recently hacked and announcements that the Anonymous Group is behind it all. Sony has found files that could link the hacks to Anonymous. After initial investigations, a file named Anonymous was found on Sony's system and contained the Anonymous Group's catchphrase "We are Legion." The files were said to be on Sony's games servers.
This is a huge loss for Sony in terms of profits and credibility. The said data stolen contains personal information of 101 million people. Some of Sony's game servers, like EverQuest and DC Universe Online was shutdown because of the attacks.
Anonymous Group is famous for hacking or attacking high security servers of big companies. They have previously attacked MasterCard, Visa, the Church of Scientology and government websites for ethical and political reasons. Sony was said to be attacked by the group with denial of service attack before because Sony sued two people who was showing instructions of how to hack PlayStation 3. That is why Sony is now accusing the Anonymous Group that it has something to do with this case. The group denied being involved with the theft of Sony's private data. Investigation is still on going and is much closer to catching the culprits.
